I'm lost with this Teir extension of benefits. My fiance is in the union and was originally laid off on October 8th, 2008. He recieved his benefits from that year and was up for his 1st extension in April, 2009. He got 1 check and then they sent a letter stating he was no longer approved. He stopped getting checks until it was revealed that the unemployment office made a mistake. He then began to recieve checks again in August of 2009. He got 1 check and returned to work. Unfortunately he was only employed from August 2009 until January 31, 2010 when his company was out of work. He opened his new claim for 2010 dated 1-31-10. He recieved MAX benefits until June, 2010. He was up for his first extension, we thought for sure he would recieve it. We were wrong. Somehow he was denied his 1st extension and was told he had to wait for the government to approve another extension to continue recieving benefits. On top of that they said he didnt work enough during the base wks required for the extension so they were going to close his "new" claim opened 1-31-10 and re-open his claim from october 2008. He finally began recieving benefits but they were cut from 1200 every 2 wks down to 452 every two wks. He went back to work 8/10/10 for one job and the entire company was laid off again exactly 5 weeks later. He was told when he returned to work and worked 5 weeks he would be able to recieve his max amount once again. Apparently not so. he just recieved his first check yesterday (from the claim they re-opened from 2008) and he is recieving only $247.00 a week and only has 3 weeks left to claim before he is again up for an extension he probably wont get. Main question is how can they revert back to an old claim? Not only that, why does it seem some people are able to get extension after extension and he couldnt recieve his first one? It seems he is being penalized for returning to work for 7 months, being laid off 1/31/10, then returning to work again August 10th for the 5 weeks his company had available. It's almost like he shouldnt even bother? I'm amazed by this. They dont seem to be taking into consideration that he returned to work both times there was work availble whether it be 6 months or 5 weeks. It makes no sense.I've also noticed you need to pay serious attention to your remaining balance on your claim...money disappears and if you dont catch it, its gone forever. Any advice would be helpful. He never recieved Any of the tiers. He went from and original claim to tier 4. What happened to Tier 1, 2, 3? I thought you had to exhaust benefits from all 3 tiers in order to qualify for 4? They are acting as if he was unemployed from october 2008 to the present. Something fishy is going on here. Sorry for the legnth.
